The following character is a home made profession for Warhammer Quest by me, James Johnston. I made this character pretty much for myself, being a Bretonnian player, but I decided to share him with the rest of the WHQ world. This Character is what we call a "Hack and Wack" character. He is almost purely for killing. Some of his skills are from the Warrior character that Jordan "Greywolf" Peacock made, so I apologize to him. Any complaints, etc email me. Thank you!

The Bretonnian Grail Knight

When a Questing Knight has fulfilled his quest to find and drink from the Holy Grail of the Lady of the lake, he will likely reside in a Grail Chapel in one of Bretonnia's Dukedoms. There he guards his sacred chapel from any who would defile the sacred land of the Lady of the Lake. However, once in awhile a Grail Knight will receive a vision from the Lady, perhaps to slay a troublesome monster who is eating peasents or to rescue a princess who is being imprisoned in a lonely castle. In any case, the Grail Knight leaves his chapel to the care of one of his fellow Grail Knights and sets off into the wilderness to fulfill his quest. Occasionally, he will find a band of warriors who have the same goal as the he does, and he will decide to join them.

GRAIL KNIGHT'S SKILLS:

COURAGE

You bravely charge into battle, inspiring your comrades to fight to the death!

This skill may be used 1 time per Combat. All warriors on the board get +2 to their fear rolls, +1 to their terror rolls.

VIRTUE OF THE IMPETUOUS KNIGHT

You cannot wait to get to grips with your enemy, and immediately charge towards them!

This skill may be used as soon as monsters are placed on the board. The Grail Knight moves D6 squares towards the nearest enemy and may immediately attack them, ignoring rules for pinning

PROTECT

Seeing your wounded comrade about to be killed by an incoming blow, you push him out of the way and take the blow yourself.

This skill allows your warrior to instantly switch places with an adjacent warrior when that warrior is about to be killed by a blow. No Pin roll is required, the Grail Knight switches places with that warrior and takes the wounds from the blow. However, because the Grail Knight had to react so quickly the blow is only modified for his natural toughness, not armor. This skill may be used once per turn.

DELAY

The odds are too slim, so you bravely hold off the teeming hordes while your allies beat a hasty retreat.

Once per turn, your Warrior may allow another Warrior adjacent to him to be able to break free without having to make a Pinning test. However, your Warrior must give up 1 Attack while using this skill, and all monsters are at +1 to hit him this turn.

PARRY

You turn the clumsy stroke of your enemy, turning his blade aside.

This skill allows your warrior to parry an incoming hand to hand blow on a roll of 6+.

MIGHTY BLOW

Putting all your strength behind your blow, you bring your weapon crashing down on your opponent's body.

Your Warrior may forgo extra Attacks in order to inflict more damage on a single blow. Once per turn, you may declare use of this skill before rolling the to hit dice. For each Attack your Warrior gives up, he may add an extra 1D6 Wounds on one of his remaining Attacks.

SHIELD WALL

You barely manage to turn the blow as it slams toward you, glancing it off your shield with a flick of your wrist.

This skill allows your Warrior to catch the impact of a single blow on his shield, deflecting all the damage that may have been caused. If your Warrior does not have a shield, he may not use the Shield Wall skill. This skill may be used once per dungeon.

VIRTUE OF PURITY

The magical fireball is about to slam into you when it is magicaly deflected, blowing up the wall next to you.

This skill gives your warrior a 5+ Magic Resistance to any harmful magic.

VIRTUE OF VALOR

The Knight has bowed to confront the biggest and strongest of foes. He had become skilled at fighting such opponents, the bigger his enemy more valouous are his efforts.

When fighting an enemy with a higher strenght characteristic then himself, he may re-roll any failed to hit rolls. He must accept the second roll, better or worse. This is not cumulative, so if he has a magic weapon that allows him to re-roll the to hit rolls he must choose between the Skill or the item.

FOR THE LADY !

The Knight has nothing but contempt for all enemies of the lady. She tells him to rid the earth of these foul creatures!

Every dungeon, the Knight automatically Hates the main type of monster in the dungeon. ie. If it is a Orc Dungeon he hates all Orcs, if it is a Skaven Dungeon he hates all Skaven etc. If the dungeon has no specific type of monster the player may nominate one. This is Cumulative, so after an Orc Dungeon is over with and he starts a Chaos Dungeon, he still hates Orcs, but now hates Chaos as well.

ADDITIONAL RULES

GRAIL VIRTUE

The Grail Knight has seen many battles, and fought many enemies. He is immune to Fear, and gets +3 to his Terror roll.

RANGED WEAPONS

The Grail Knight is bound by the Rules of Honour to never use ranged weapons. He cannot use any kind of missile weapon, and any missile weapon being shot at him is deflected on a 6+.

HONOUR OR DEATH!

The Grail Knight is bound by the Rules of Honour to never retreat from the enemy. He cannot escape pining, no matter what.

BRETONNIAN WARHORSE

The Grail Knight has fought many battles for his domain, and the villagers have rewarded him by giving him a fine warhorse. The Grail Knight starts the game with the Warhorse on page 30 of the Roleplay book. However, this is not a normal Warhorse, this is a fine Stud of Bretonnia! The only difference is that this horse cannot be stolen, because even the most daring theives would not dare to anger a Bretonnian Knight!

CHIVALRY

The Knight is bound by the Code of Hounour to defend the weak and fight for the right. If any Settlement or Hazard Roll results in the warrior given the option to help with something (ie Runaway, etc) he MUST help. If this means the other warriors must help as well, so be it.

EQUIPMENT

The Grail Knight may use any kind of Armour that the Dwarf or Barbarian could use, but due to his large stature and being accustomed to battle, he ignores all movement penalties for Armour. He can only use the 4 types of sword (Sword, Longsword, Great Sword, Broad Sword) as weapons.

MAGIC ITEMS

The Grail Knight may use any kind of Magical Item the Barbarian can use, but cannot use Magical Weapons except for Magical Swords. If he finds a magic Item he cannot use, he will give it to one of the other warriors.

BAND OF WARRIORS

The Grail Knight will NOT join or remain with any group of adventurers that have evil warriors in them, such as Chaos Warriors or Vampires.

GRAIL KNIGHTS IN SETTLEMENTS

The Grail Knight CANNOT enter the Ale House or the Gambling House due to his honor as a knight. He may go to any of the shops except for the Gunsmith and Fletcher. When he goes to the Temple he is actually going to a small Grail Chapel (see Bretonnia section of my site) and pays only 1/2 of the normal fees there.

ROLEPLAY TIPS

All Actions that require a test treat the Knight as a Barbarian for Modifers .

The Grail Knight is very Chivalrous, and always accepts challenges. When a Grail Knight joins a group of adventurers, he has already deemed them worthy and noble warriors. He will fight to the death for any one of them. He will rescue anyone that needs rescuing, he will kill anyone that needs killing. Pretty simple, actually.

REPRESENTING THE BRETONIAN GRAIL KNIGHT

I like the Knight Champion on Foot model from Citadel. A number of other knight models could be used, simply paint them with heraldic colors. I have a basic Knight with a Fleur De Lys on his shield.
