Hello everyone.
This character class is the Dark Elf Corsair which I have  written.  It pretty much is a Dark Elf Warrior who is capable of using  axe and sword in deadly unison.  This warrior has been playtested in an  evil campaign.  Should be balanced.  The character class concentrates  much on the techniques and aspects of using a sword and an axe  simultaneously.  Also, the class allows a bit of variety in your attack  methods.  Enjoy.

Dark Elf Corsair

By Jason Yeung
01 May 1999

The Dark Elf Corsair is one of the Dark Elf raiders that arrive on their finely crafted ships to loot and pillage wherever they go.  Fearless and merciless, the corsair makes a worthy opponent.  Wearing the tough, scaly pelt of a Cold-One, it is all too usual for a Dark Elf to venture into the dark dungeons of the Old World in search of powerful artifacts and weapons.

Equipment

The Dark Elf Corsair starts with a Cold-One Cloak, a though cloak made from the skin of a Cold-One.  Whenever the Dark Elf is hit with a bladed weapon (or claw, spike, etc), the Cold-One Cloak will halve the damage taken form the attack on a 5+.

Weapon

The Dark Elf Corsair starts with a Sword and an Axe.
Dark Elf Sword - D6 + Str.
Dark Elf Axe - D6 + Str. + 1

Armor

The Dark Elf Corsair starts with a suit of finely crafted Dark Elf Chain Mail.  The armor gives the Dark Elf +1 Toughness.

Class Restrictions

The Dark Elf Corsair can use any single-handed close combat weapon.  He can use a shield, but rarely do Corsairs employ the use of shields.  A Corsair cannot use a Great Shield though.  He cannot use missile weapons of any kind and cannot wear Heavy Armor or Plate Armor. The Dark Elf Corsair gets a -2 penalty at the Alehouse.

Special Skills

The Dark Elf Corsair starts with the following skills:

Ambidextrous -
The Dark Elf Corsair, like all Corsairs, was trained to fight with sword in one hand and axe in the other.
The Dark Elf Corsair may use two weapons at the same time as long as they are both single-handed weapons.  When doing so, a shield may not be used.  The Corsair gains +1 attack when using two weapons.  The Corsair's attacks should be split evenly between the two weapons (if there is an odd number of attacks, you can choose which one to use for the final attack).  However, if the Dark Elf Corsair uses both hand weapons in one turn, he cannot deathblow.  However, he can choose to use only one hand weapon per turn and still deathblow as normal.  In this case, he does not get the +1 attack bonus.

Block and Strike -
The Dark Elf Corsair is trained to use both axe and sword in unison, parry with his sword while striking with the axe, then thrust home with the sword.
This skill can be activated once per turn and only when you are armed with two hand weapons (one a sword).  Using this skill uses up 2-3 of the Dark Elf's attacks.  First roll 1D6 for the Parry.  The parry's success depends on the Weaponskills of the two combatants.  If they are equal, the parry succeeds on a 4+.  If the Dark Elf's Weaponskill is higher, he adds +1 to the die roll.  If the Opponent's Weaponskill is greater, then there is a -1 penalty on the die roll.  If the Parry was successful, you can continue with the strike.  Make a roll to hit with your Axe.  This attack ignores all Toughness.  If you sacrificed 3 attacks instead of 2, then make another attack with your sword (even if your axe didn't hit its target).  This thrust ignores all Armor and Toughness.

Special Skills Table

Whenever the Dark Elf Corsair gains a skill, roll 2D6 and consult the chart below:

2 Counter Attack

The Dark Elf parries one attack with his sword and immediately counters with his axe.

Whenever the Dark Elf is hit in hand to hand combat, roll 1D6.  On a roll of a 5+, you block the attack and can make 1 immediate attack using your axe with a -1 to hit penalty on the attacker (no deathblow).  This skill can only be used against humanoid enemies armed with close combat weapons.  (No parrying Dragons, Greater Demons, Giants, etc.)

3 Endure Pain

The Dark Elf Corsair so enraged by his opponent, shrugs off savage blows like they were nothing.

If the Dark Elf Corsair is ever reduced below 5 wounds, this skill is activated.  Roll 1D6 each time you are hit.  On a 3+, you suffer only half damage.  On a roll of a 6, the attack is ignored.

4 Relentless Strike

The Dark Elf Corsair furiously strikes at his opponent and then follows up with two more attacks.

The Corsair may activate this skill three times per adventure and only once per turn.  Upon activation, the Corsair gains an additional D3 attacks until the end of the turn.

5 Battle Fury

The Dark Elf Corsair kills one enemy and then charges into another before they have time to react.

Whenever the Dark Elf Corsair kills an enemy in hand to hand combat, he may move 1 square in any direction and make an additional attack.  This may be done instead of a deathblow, but may not be done during or in addition to a deathblow.

6 Lunge and Slash

The Dark Elf Corsair lunges at his opponent with one weapon and then makes a wide slash with his other blade.

The Dark Elf Corsair can use this skill once per turn.  Doing so uses up 2 attacks.  First make an attack to represent the Lunge.  This attack is at -1 to hit and deals a hit at 2xStrength.  If this attack hits, then the Slash is also at -1 to hit and deals 2xStrength.  However, if the first attack fails, then the second attack is at +1 to hit and +1 Strength.

7 Feint and Thrust

The Dark Elf Corsair feints once fooling his opponent, before performing his deadly thrust.

This skill can be used once per turn and takes the place of 1 attack.  The Dark Elf Corsair will attempt to feint to fool his opponent.  Roll 1D6.  The feint's success depends on the Weaponskills of the two combatants.  If they are equal, the feint succeeds on a 4+.  If the Dark Elf's Weaponskill is higher, he adds +1 to the die roll.  If the Opponent's Weaponskill is greater, then there is a -1 penalty on the die roll.  If the feint succeeds, then the Corsair then quickly takes advantage of this and thrusts home with a sword.  This attack gets a +2 bonus to hit and will deal double damage.  If the feint did not fool the opponent, then the thrust will gain no bonus to hit or damage.  An opponent will fall for this trick only once so this skill cannot be used on the same opponent twice.  (No Deathblow)

8 Double Overhead Chop

he Dark Elf Corsair raises both weapons above his head and makes a massive chop with both axe and sword.

Whenever the Dark Elf Corsair rolls a natural 6+ to hit with a hand to hand attack, hits his opponent with both weapons in an overhead chop.  The victim suffers damage from both weapons instead of one.

9 Overwhelming Barrage

The Dark Elf Corsair slashes with his sword and chops with his axe, keeping his opponents always on the defensive.

The Corsair may use this skill on any one opponent that he has fought for more than 1 turn.  For every two turns the Corsair has been fighting the opponent beyond the first, he will gain an additional attack up to the maximum of Battle-Level until that opponent is defeated.  All these extra attacks must be targeted on the original opponent.  This skill cannot be used if the Corsair has been reduced below zero wounds by his current target.

10 Furious Charge

The Dark Elf Corsair screams his battle cry as he charges into his opponents.

Whenever a new monster event is encountered, roll 1D6 for the Dark Elf Corsair.  On a 4+, he will double his attacks for the first round of combat only.

11 Death Strike

The Dark Elf Corsair's blades always seem to find the most painful and vital places to lodge themselves.

Whenever the Dark Elf Corsair hits his opponents, his blades will have inflicted exceptionally painful and probably fatal wounds.  Roll a D6 after dealing damage.  On a roll of a 5+, the attack will instantly slay its victim if the victim has a remaining Wound value equal to or less than the Corsair's Battle-Levelx2.

12 Death Master

The Dark Elf Corsair launches into a series of masterful slashes, parries, chops, and thrusts, which threatens to defeat even the most skilled opponents.

This skill may be activated once per adventure.  The Dark Elf Corsair doubles his attacks this turn.  In addition, all attacks gain a +1 bonus to hit and +1 Strength.
