Chaos Troll

By Allan Nielsen

Trolls are large and foul creatures, with gangling limbs and cold, damp hides. Renowned for their strength and unthinking ferocity, Trolls can rip a man apart with their bare hands. Trolls are able to regenerate damaged flesh, and so are all but impossible to kill. Not only that, they have the ability to vomit the corrosive contents over their victim, melting armour, flesh and bone with ease. Chaos Trolls are the largest and the most dangerous type of Troll. Due to the powers of Chaos, these Trolls sometimes grow an extra head, or thick spines on their backs. They are more aggressive than other Trolls and not as stupid.

-*- SPECIAL RULES -*-

The Chaos Troll has a Fear rating of 5+ Battle level.
Regenerate (2D6).
Vomit.

Regenerate

If the Chaos Troll suffers damage, he will gain 2D6 Wounds at the end of each turn, but the Chaos Troll cannot regenerate if he is reduced to 0 Wounds or fewer and can never have more Wounds than he started with. The Chaos Troll cannot regenerate at the end of the turn if his flesh is burnt, either from natural fire or from a magic weapon in the same turn.

Vomit

Chaos Trolls have a special Vomit attack, regurgitating the highly corrosive contents of its stomach all over the Monster it is attacking. In addition to making a Chaos Troll's normal attacks, roll 1D6. If the score is a 5 or 6, the Chaos Troll has vomited on its foe. If the victim has any armour (including shields or a helmet) he loses one piece of it as the acid eats it away. The creature concerned may choose which item he loses. If he hasn't got any armour, the target loses 1D6+2 Wounds, with no deductions for Toughness.

-*- ADDITIONAL RULES -*-

* In a settlement the Chaos Troll can visit: any trader, the Alchemist, the Alehouse (roll 2D6), and the Chaos Temple. (Rules for the Chaos Temple are found in the "Chaos Warrior" warrior pack rulebook).

* The Chaos Troll can use any equipment the Barbarian and the Dwarf can use, with the exception of missile weapons, as the Chaos Troll will rather fight in close combat than use missile weapons. And he can also use human-sized 2-handed weapons in one hand because of his large size.

* Trolls are significantly larger then men, let alone Dwarves, and therefore can't wear the same articles of clothing or armour. If any armour or clothing items (such as Boots of Swiftness) are encountered as treasure, it is a given that the Troll cannot use them. (Of course, the GM is able to make exceptions in a moderated game.) If he buys armour or clothing, it costs twice the normal sale value, and he must add +2 to the "Stock" value to determine the chance of finding such an item. If Chaos Troll armour is sold, it still only gets the normal resale value (as, while it's bigger with more material, there are very few Troll customers).

* The Chaos Troll cannot gain skills, but he can gain specialist’ actions.

* He can get Chaos Attributes and use Chaos Artefacts. He can also get characteristic increases by gaining them in the Chaos Temple. (Rules for Chaos Attributes and Chaos Artefacts are found in the "Chaos Warrior" warrior pack rulebook). He can, like the Chaos Warrior, be refused admittance to a settlement if he has to many obvious Chaos Attributes.

* If a pit should be encountered that occupies a single space, the Chaos Troll is too large to fall in. Rather, he is only tripped by the trap, losing his next turn while he gets back up. He does not take any damage from the fall, nor does he need a rope to get out.

* The Chaos Troll is also handy for moving other Warriors around, due to his size.

Instead of moving or taking any other action for the turn, he may pull or lift a Warrior out of a pit, without having to use a rope.

-*- REPRESENTING YOUR WARRIOR -*-

Citadel Miniatures has plenty of Trolls to pick to represent your Troll character. Just choose a River Troll or Stone Troll and maybe convert it to look like a Chaos Troll.

-*- ROLE-PLAYING TIPS -*-

Basically, all he needs to do is to be brutish and impulsive.

It is impossible for the Chaos Troll to be the leader of the party, as he is more turned to destroy monsters than lead others.
